Cover reveal - THE UNBECOMING OF MARGARET WOLF
Isa Arsén's sophomore novel releases January 7, 2025.
Margot & co. will be hitting shelves on January 7, 2025, and she has a cover I can finally clang my proverbial pots and pans together in the streets about:
I gave the Putnam team a playlist and an overfull pinboard, and they performed alchemy. I love it. I hope you all do, too—I saw the first proof just before Christmas, and I’ve wanted to crow about it every moment since. Applause for my ability to shut the hell up about something for once!!
Some copy to pique:
A sexy, atmospheric mid-century novel about two Shakespearean actors in an unusual marriage, during one summer that will drive them closer than ever or rip them apart for good.
Up-and-coming stage actress Margaret Shoard has just taken a bow as Lady Macbeth, the role she has always believed was destined for her. At home, she plays wife to her best friend Wesley, even if she doesn’t hold his sole attention romantically. After a public breakdown threatens all she holds dear, Margaret’s doctor prescribes her uppers—just a little help to get through the days.
When Wesley is invited by eccentric director Vaughn Kline to join the cast for an inaugural Shakespeare performance in the New Mexico desert, Margaret decides to accompany him in the hopes that time away from the city will set her back to rights...but the world she finds in Vaughn’s company is filled with obsession and betrayal. Margaret and Wesley, embroiled in an affair with a man who may not be all he seems, must find a way forward together before their story becomes the real tragedy.
I’m obsessed with this book. I’m obsessed with these themes. I’m obsessed with these characters (even the rotted ones). I can’t wait for others to dive in.

Other bon mots to have on your radar:
The San Antonio book festival is this Saturday, April 13th, and it’s free! I’ll be on a panel with Elba Iris Pérez, author of THE THINGS WE DIDN’T KNOW, discussing historical fiction, identity, and coming of age. Come down if you’re nearby and eager to support the right to read in Texas (I say again: it’s free).
Rose Sutherland’s A SWEET STING OF SALT, a story I’ve loved since it was quite an early draft, is out in the world this week—rejoice!! Get your hands on a copy for a Selkie Wife retelling with one of my favorite MCs of all time.
I’ve cried all over my copy of Anthony Oliveira’s DAYSPRING. Most resonant thing I’ve read of late. Love thyself and dive in.
Thanks for being here! More to come.
All my best,
